A residence permit in Türkiye (ikamet) allows foreigners to stay in the country beyond the duration permitted by a tourist visa or visa-free regime.

- Tourism. Foreign tourists who plan to stay in Turkey for more than 90 days can apply for a short-term residence permit. To apply, you will need to confirm the purpose of your stay, sufficient income, and place of residence.
- Business. Foreign investors who conduct business and invest in the Turkish economy are eligible to apply for a Turkish residence permit.
- Education. Foreign students admitted to Turkish universities, participants in student exchange programs and attendees of Turkish language courses are guaranteed a Turkish residence permit.
- Treatment. Citizens of other countries arriving in Türkiye for the purpose of receiving medical services can obtain a residence permit for the period of treatment.
- Scientific activity. Foreign specialists arriving to conduct scientific research are granted a residence permit.
- Family reunification. Spouses of Turkish citizens, as well as family members of foreigners residing in Türkiye on the basis of a residence permit, have the right to apply for a residence permit for family reunification.
- Long-term Residence in Türkiye. Foreigners who have lived in Turkey for at least 8 years without interruption on the basis of a short-term ikamet can apply for a long-term residence permit.
- Buying real estate. The simplest and most reliable way to obtain a Turkish residence permit is by purchasing property worth at least USD 200,000 A residence permit is issued on the basis of TAPU for up to 2 years with the possibility of extension. How to get a Turkish residence permit when buying real estate: 5 mandatory steps
